Have you ever heard of an Italian Tune-up? Well it is a good thing to do on a otherwise well tuned diesel automobile. It can increase your gas mileage, limit black smoke and smooth out your idle.
All you need to do is go from a low speed to max speed (high RPM's) as fast as you can during a long highway drive. Driving at a high RPM under load will also work (uphill, etc.). You want to get the engine temp very hot so it will burn away all the unwanted carbon build up. You only want to do this when your engine is in good condition with timing and valves properly adjusted, filters clean, and low chain stretch. When you do this at every oil change you will notice a difference, especialy with cars that are city drivers in stop and go traffic.
Go ahead and try this, go for a nice scenic drive for an hour and let your foot down a little more than your used to. Jordan |
